Ban Sabai Spa Package: A Pampering in Paradise

Ban Sabai Spa Package: A Pampering in Paradise
UPDATE : 26 February 2010

Youthapong Charoenpan

Boasting its own beautiful private beach along a sheltered southwest stretch of the island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand, Ban Sabai Sunset Beach Resort & Spa may already start sounding like a dream holiday destination.

But the resort offers a whole lot more than these geographical benefits, providing guests with the chance to truly unwind by sampling some of the in-house spa's refreshing and rejuvenating treatment and massage programs, which are underpinned by impeccable levels of service.

Spoiled for choice
Fortunately, going out in the evening and generally getting along with total strangers seems to be the norm on Koh Samui. You're truly spoiled for choice on the island in this regard thanks to a plethora of funky pubs, clubs and bars, music venues, top-quality restaurants, as well as an abundance of hotels and resorts.

And while all these entertainment options may prove alluring, you'll also discover some rather gentler alternatives by exploring the resort's extensive spa menu.

Winding down
I arrived at Ban Sabai on a Ruby Package deal (33,000 baht [about US$1,000] for two persons), which includes two nights accommodation, breakfast, an airport transfer (round trip), an aromatic bath, a one-hour aromatherapy treatment, a two-hour herbal steam massage, a one-hour Thai herbal facial massage, a one-hour foot scrub and massage and a one-and-a-half hour pedicure and manicure (inclusive of service charges and taxes).

I began with a new experience – a soothing one-hour foot scrub and massage, which on completion left my feet feeling completely refreshed.

The spa's management and therapists can provide advice regarding individual treatments in terms of those that they deem to be most appropriate given the various relevant conditions. As I was feeling pretty stiff, I began with a two-hour herbal steam massage. The use of fresh Thai herbs in this particular treatment had a calmative effect, leaving me feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated.

In addition to the range of massages and treatments available, the spa also boasts a salt water flotation pool, which allows users to enjoy a deeply meditative environment as they float in salt water.

An impressive locale
Ban Sabai, which would best be described as a luxury boutique resort, benefits from an extremely impressive setting alongside Ao Taling Ngam ('Taling Ngam Beach'), which must be one of the prettiest stretches of sand on the island.

The resort includes 21 units, covering three accommodation categories. There are 11 Sunset Rooms located within a two-story building, each with their own Jacuzzi and bathroom, six Garden Jacuzzi Villas, each with their own garden, Jacuzzi and private pavilion, which can be used if required when undergoing a massage or spa treatment.

In the third category - at the top end of the range - are four one and two-bedroomed Beach Front Pool Villas. Each of these include a living room, a private swimming pool and a pavilion. The beachside pavilion's open end looks out across the ocean. These units also include free WiFi Internet access, a DVD player, a Jacuzzi and a huge balcony area.

A spectacular setting
The resort is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens, which only add to the uplifting ambiance.
Somehow, a glass of Campari on the rocks from the resort's L'Ananas restaurant seems all the more heavenly thanks to the general setting and stunning ocean vista.

As well as enjoying a truly invigorating treatment package, my visit to Ban Sabai also allowed me to consider exactly what is most important to me in my life and begin setting out towards where I want to be in 2015.

Since Ban Sabai can be reached from Bangkok in less than two hours, I would recommend you also sample a little taste of this heaven on earth. I can certainly say, without reservation, that when the end to my stay approached, I was already longing to return.
