A small group of local history experts will launch the Chao Phraya River boat trip, which will focus on temples, palaces and buildings along the river that have ties to King Rama V who modernised the country and helped Siam avoid Western colonisation.
The group chose this theme as this year is the 100th anniversary of the death of the great monarch.
Julpassorn Panomwan Na Ayutthaya local historian and official at the ministry of culture, will offer nostalgic and poignant historic anecdotes _ for instance, the story of the French Embassy during the colonial era, the past and future of Customs House near Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, the temple and shrine of Phra Nang Rua Loem, King Rama V's beloved Queen Sunantha Kumareerat who drown in a boat accident in 1881, and so on.
The trip will be held on June 19, from 7am to 6pm. Numbers are limited. Book before June 15 at the latest. Cost is 1,900 baht per person (includes refreshment and insurance cover up to 100,000 baht). Call Julpassorn on 08-1343-4261.
